## Introduction

I’m unfamiliar with okra, but I noticed its prevalence while researching recipes for my most recent blog post on [vegan African recipes](https://mischievousmonsters.com/african/?ref=mischievousmonsters.com). I thought it would be a great topic to start in 2022 due to Kwanzaa. If you aren’t aware, Kwanzaa is a celebration of African-American culture, and okra is pretty popular in Kwanzaan dishes because it is one of the food symbols of the African Diaspora.
