10 Reasons to Use a Vegan Travel Advisor
Traveling as a vegan is one of the most rewarding ways to see the world—vibrant food scenes, meaningful cultural experiences, and opportunities to connect with compassionate communities everywhere you go.
But it can also come with stress. Will the food actually be great? Will accommodations truly offer vegan options? What if plans change mid-trip?
That's precisely why working with a vegan travel advisor like me can transform your travel experience from stressful to seamless, joyful, and deliciously kind.
Before we dive in, here's some more info about me as a vegan and a travel advisor.

Your Veganventure Begins Here
I'm Megan McFadden, the creator of Mischievous Monsters, a vegan lifestyle blog dedicated to making plant-based living fun and accessible.
Since 2019, I've shared everything from recipe lists to travel guides and lifestyle tips. I became vegan in 2017 for Lent and kept it up after Easter came and went. I started this blog to get writing samples for a manuscript. Even though I haven't published my novel yet, my blog has been an inspiration to vegans and non-vegans alike.
My own travels have taken me around the world—from singing at Carnegie Hall in New York City to performing in the New Year's Day Parades in London and Rome, and learning Spanish while exploring Cuba, Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, and Puerto Rico.
Recently, I expanded my passion for travel into something even bigger. I became an Independent Travel Advisor with Fora Travel, where I design trips that are vegan-friendly, enjoyable, and affordable—whether you're vegan, vegetarian, plant-based, or flexitarian. I also plan trips with options that work for your family and friends who may not follow the same diet.
Now on to the why…

Sampling the world, one vegan meal at a time.
1. No More Food Anxiety
Does eating out seem like a chore? You're not alone. It's way too time-consuming to figure out where all of the vegan options are, especially in a place that you've never been to before. Also, your dining options vary depending on the itinerary, so it would be silly to research food before that's set in stone.
I've been there and done that, and honestly, it's a huge waste of time. Instead, you should leave that in the hands of a trusted vegan travel advisor like me. They have much more experience recommending great dining options for everyone, whether you're the only vegan on the trip or not.
2. Your Vegan Accommodations Happen
Trust me when I say that vegan options are a struggle at times. I've had family and friends who pick out restaurants with vegan offerings only to find out that their definition of vegan food is salad, when most premade salad options aren't vegetarian, let alone vegan.
Unfortunately, that happens time and time again when traveling. Often, hotels claim to offer vegan options without much thought on how vegans and vegetarians would like them. Sadly, that claim could be outdated because their only vegan meal option was removed from the menu months ago, or their "vegan-friendly" breakfast bar only offers brown bananas as vegan options.
Vegan travel advisors go out of their way to make sure you stay in a hotel that's actually vegan-friendly. My hotel preferences in this case are a vegan hotel (aka 100% plant-based) or a vegetarian hotel with vegan options. That way, you can sleep and eat breakfast knowing that your lifestyle is prioritized while you're exploring the world.
3. A New World of Vegan-Friendly Destinations
My first international trip after going vegan was to Cuba as part of a capstone trip. It was weird that out of the 16 college students, three of us, including me, graduated from the same high school class.
Even though I wasn't very experienced with navigating vegan travel, I discovered that some cuisines are more plant-based than others. We had a lot of sliced fruit and bread for breakfast, and I was happy that the bread didn't have any eggs, dairy, or honey. Most of the veggie dishes were also vegan and made with vegetable oil. I also tried jackfruit for the first time, and my roommate and I were confused because it tasted and looked like chicken.
You are welcome to visit popular tourist destinations like New York City, London, and Paris, but don't settle for the common. A vegan travel advisor recommends off-the-beaten-path destinations such as Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Bali (Indonesia), and Budapest (Hungary).
4. Your Vegan Values Take Precedence
Vegan travel is about more than what's on your plate because it's a lifestyle, not a diet. An average travel advisor prioritizes a destination's highlights, and even though they might know what veganism is, they might not understand that some everyday activities aren't vegan.
Some examples include spending the afternoon touring fur stores in Alaska, going on a fishing expedition in Canada, or having dinner at a lobster boil in Maine.
A vegan travel advisor helps you avoid animal exploitation and instead chooses experiences that feel good, like a mission trip to a wildlife sanctuary in South Africa, a vegan food tour of Berlin (Germany), or a multi-adventure trip to Patagonia (Chile and Argentina).
5. Hello, Vegan-Friendly Itinerary
One disadvantage I've had as the only vegan on the trip is the lack of vegan options for a good chunk of it. There's a reason some of my vacations had a decent number of vegan frozen meals or sack lunch sandwiches, with the comment that I had to eat in the car after a meal or at our Airbnb because there were no vegan options at the restaurants we went to, or that the area was too remote to have vegan food readily available.
The funny thing is that I've been to plenty of grocery stores in other states and countries, and some of the most vegan-friendly ones were in Alaska in the middle of nowhere on the way to one of our destinations.
Anyway, my point is that you don't get those lame excuses for food options with a vegan travel advisor. You don't have to trek across the city to find vegan-friendly dining options. Instead, sit back and relax as you enjoy vegan and vegan-friendly restaurant recommendations near or at the tourism attractions you're visiting.
If, for some reason, you're stuck without any dining options, vegan tour advisors can point out nearby grocery stores with everything you need for a fun picnic in a local park.
6. Less Time Planning & More Time Living
Most trips require extensive planning, and vegan ones take even longer to finalize. That's where a vegan travel advisor comes into play. Instead of spending hours or days perfecting your vacation, they already know where to look, what to avoid, and how to create a trip that works for you.
You skip the overwhelming parts and get straight to the excitement of taking time off work to spend with those you care about, or going on a solo trip to destress.
7. I Have Your Back When Travel Plans Change
Almost every time I've flown, one of my flights has been delayed or canceled.
On the way home from Banff, some of my family and I had trouble getting back to Minneapolis from Calgary (Canada). The problem was that right after we got to the airport, we realized that our Calgary flight was so delayed that we would miss our connecting flight in Manitoba before we left Calgary.
We spent three hours going from one desk to another trying to resolve our issue. Delta was incredible because they gave us four free nonstop flights from Calgary to Minneapolis. Then, we spent another hour waiting for a rental car to tour Calgary for the day. I learned that I'm never letting my parents drive home with my luggage because I had nothing besides what I had in my personal item that day.
My sisters traveled on the same airline and made it to Toronto, but their connecting flight to Minneapolis was canceled. They ended up connecting in Newark and then flying to Minneapolis the next day, and they made it to the Twin Cities before we did. Unfortunately, my youngest sister missed her first day of work due to flight issues.
The advantage of using a travel advisor is that they are there to help when things go astray. A vegan travel advisor is even better, especially when you change your travel plans and want help finding new vegan-friendly lodging and dining options at the last minute.
8. No Settling for Fries
Some foods get old over time, especially with vegans needing more plant-based meal options. I've had fries and cheeseless pizzas so many times that it's annoying after a while.
Don't settle for these meal options because another family member or friend wants to go out for steaks. Let a vegan travel advisor give you some advice on some vegan-friendly restaurants that work for the entire group. Then, all of the travelers are happy, not just the only vegan on the trip.
9. More Confidence & Less Insecurities
There's no need to worry about not having anything to eat on a tour or figuring out vegan options on your flight. A vegan travel advisor has tips, tricks, and assistance to ensure you receive proper dietary accommodations.
You can relax, explore, and be fully present, without worrying about whether your needs will be met.
10. A Kind Trip = A Happy Trip
Every choice—from where you sleep to what you eat—becomes part of a bigger story. A vegan travel advisor lets your vacation reflect compassion for animals, care for the planet, and respect for people everywhere you go.
You don't have to worry about sleeping on down pillows, not having anything to eat at a continental breakfast, or having chicken as the only airplane meal option. Your vegan travel advisor will ensure that your veganism is not only accommodated but also appreciated through delicious plant-based meal options, lodging, activities, and more.
