Vegan Oktoberfest Food
At the heart of Oktoberfest is the foodâhearty, rustic, and meant for sharing around long tables with friends and family.
While the traditional fare leans heavily on meat, cheese, and eggs, it's surprisingly easy (and delicious) to give these classics a plant-based twist. With the right ingredients, you can enjoy all the rich, cozy flavors of Bavaria without sacrificing your valuesâor the taste.
Savory Mains
The stars of the table are always the main dishes, and these vegan versions are every bit as satisfying as their traditional counterparts.

Vegan Bratwurst
Juicy, smoky, and packed with bold seasoning, these sausages can be made from seitan, lentils, or pea protein. Grill or pan-fry them to perfection, then serve with mustard and sauerkraut for that authentic Oktoberfest flavor.

Vegan Weisswurst
Mild, tender, and delicately seasoned with parsley, lemon, and spices, these sausages are best made with tofu or white beans for a lighter color. Gently poach or pan-warm them and enjoy with mustard and a soft pretzel for a Bavarian classic.

Vegan Schnitzel
Golden, crispy, and irresistible, schnitzel can be crafted from seitan cutlets, marinated tofu slabs, or even thick mushroom slices, all breaded and pan-fried to crunchy perfection.

Vegan Goulash
A rich paprika stew brimming with mushrooms, beans, or lentils, slow-cooked until thick and hearty. It's the kind of dish that warms you from the inside out.

Stuffed Cabbage Rolls
Tender cabbage leaves wrapped around a savory filling of rice, lentils, and herbs, then baked in a rich tomato sauce. Comfort food at its finest.

Vegan Spaetzle
These German-style eggless noodles are soft, chewy, and utterly comforting. Tossed with caramelized onions and a touch of vegan butter, they're a dish worth twirling your fork into.
Sides and Snacks
No Oktoberfest table is complete without an array of sides to balance out the mains. These small bites and sharable dishes keep everyone coming back for moreâperfect for mixing, matching, and pairing with a frothy pint.

Soft Pretzels
Golden-brown, chewy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, sprinkled generously with coarse salt. Serve warm with spicy mustard, creamy vegan cheese dip, or tangy sauerkraut for that authentic beer hall feel.

Potato Pancakes (Kartoffelpuffer)
Crispy, golden-fried patties made from shredded potatoes and onions. Traditionally served with applesauce, but they're also delicious with a dollop of vegan sour cream or chive dip.

Roasted Potatoes
Bite-sized potatoes roasted until crispy. Simple, comforting, and always a crowd favorite.

Sauerkraut
Tangy, fermented cabbage that's probiotic-rich and refreshing. A must-have to cut through rich mains like sausages and schnitzels.

Red Cabbage
Slowly braised with apple, onion, and warming spices like clove and cinnamon. Its sweet-and-savory balance makes it a beautiful contrast to smoky or salty dishes.

Roasted Nuts
Warm spiced walnuts, almonds, and coated with maple syrup, raw sugar, ginger, and cinnamon. Great for snacking with a pint of beer in hand.

Pretzel Bites with Mustard
Soft, salty mini pretzel pieces made for sharing. Pair them with stone-ground mustard or beer cheese dip for the ultimate party snack.

Pickled Vegetables
A crisp, tangy mix of gherkins (cucumbers), beets, carrots, turnips, or any veggie of choice. The acidity cuts through heavier foods while adding color and crunch to the spread.

Oktoberfest Snack Board
A festive spread of soft pretzels, sauerkraut, fruits, and veggiesâperfect for grazing while enjoying a frothy pint.

Vegan Cheese Platter
An impressive Oktoberfest centerpiece. Build a board with German-inspired vegan cheeses (smoky, herby, and tangy varieties), crackers, apple slices, grapes, and pretzel twists for a shareable show-stopper.
Sweet Treats
No Oktoberfest is complete without dessert! These vegan-friendly sweets capture the festival's indulgent spirit while leaning into cozy autumn flavors. Perfect for finishing a hearty meal or pairing with a warm cup of spiced cider.

Layers of flaky, dairy-free pastry wrapped around tender, spiced apples and plump raisins. Lightly dusted with powdered sugar, it's perfect served warm alongside a mug of coffee, tea, or vegan mulled cider.

Vegan Lebkuchen
Soft, spiced German cookies infused with cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg. These chewy delights are perfect for dunking in tea or enjoying with a glass of apple cider, offering a taste of traditional Bavarian holiday flavors.
Schokoladenbrot
Rich, chocolatey slices made vegan, perfect for a sweet Oktoberfest treat or a cozy autumn snack.

Chocolate-Covered Marzipan
A classic Bavarian sweet transformed plant-based. Sweet almond paste is encased in rich vegan chocolate, making each bite decadent and satisfying. Serve on a festive platter for a show-stopping treat.

Pumpkin Bundt Cake
Moist, fragrant, and bursting with autumn spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. This seasonal cake is ideal for adding a cozy fall touch to your Oktoberfest dessert table, especially when topped with a light dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of vegan glaze.

Vegan Oktoberfest Beverages
While beer is often the centerpiece of Oktoberfest, there are plenty of vegan-friendly options to suit every guest and keep the celebration flowing. From traditional German brews to seasonal autumn beverages, here's how to fill your mugs and glasses the plant-based way.

Vegan Beer
Many German lagers, ales, radler, and craft beers are naturally vegan, but some use isinglass (fish bladder) in the filtering process. Apps like Barnivore make it easy to check which beers are fully plant-based. Serve cold in classic beer steins or tall glasses for an authentic Oktoberfest vibe.

Apple Cider
Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic ciders are perfect for fall festivities. Serve chilled for a crisp sip, or warm with spices like cinnamon and cloves for a cozy, autumnal drink.

Sparkling Water
A crisp, bubbly option that pairs well with all the rich, savory dishes. Add a slice of lemon or a sprig of rosemary for a festive touch.

Herbal Tea
Serve warm or iced with autumn spices like cinnamon, clove, or star anise.

Non-Alcoholic Beer
Perfect for designated drivers, kids, or anyone avoiding alcohol. Choose vegan-friendly options and serve in small steins to keep the festive Oktoberfest feel.
Serving Tip
Consider a drink station with labeled glasses, garnishes like lemon slices or cinnamon sticks, and fun Oktoberfest-style mugs to enhance the atmosphere.

Vegan-Friendly Oktoberfest Decorations and Atmosphere
The right decorations and atmosphere can transform any space into a festive Oktoberfest celebrationâno need for anything non-vegan to make it authentic! Combine classic Bavarian elements with cozy autumn touches to create a warm, inviting setting for your guests.
Bavarian Flag Colors
Incorporate the iconic blue-and-white palette with tablecloths, banners, napkins, and even reusable straws. These cheerful colors instantly evoke Oktoberfest and pair beautifully with fall-themed accents like pumpkins and gourds.
Rustic Wooden Accents
Use wooden trays, serving bowls, and cutting boards to display food. Wooden beer steins or carved mugs add a traditional feel while keeping the décor natural and eco-friendly. Avoid single-use plastics for a more sustainable celebration.
Oktoberfest Music
Create the perfect soundtrack with German folk songs, polka playlists, or live accordion if possible. Music instantly sets the mood, encouraging conversation, dancing, and a lively communal atmosphere.
Pumpkins and Fall Foliage
Seasonal touches like mini pumpkins, gourds, autumn leaves, and branches bring warmth and color to the table. These natural decorations are entirely plant-based and can double as centerpieces or buffet décor.
Mugs, Steins, and Mason Jars
Serve drinks in reusable mugs, glass steins, or mason jars to keep it festive and eco-friendly. Label drinks with small chalkboard tags or reusable stickers so guests know which beverages are vegan-friendly.
Vegan-Friendly Tips
Choose decorations that are cruelty-free and sustainable. Avoid items like beeswax candles or animal-based glitters. Edible décor, such as fresh herbs, fruit garlands, or pie pumpkins, can enhance both the look and taste of your Oktoberfest spread.
Extra Touch
Long communal tables, benches, and shared platters encourage connection, conversation, and that authentic Oktoberfest vibeâall fully plant-based and inclusive.

Vegan-Friendly Oktoberfest Activities and Entertainment
Oktoberfest is as much about fun, community, and celebration as it is about food and drink. Add playful activities and interactive experiences to keep your guests engaged, laughing, and immersed in the festival spiritâall fully plant-based and inclusive.

Oktoberfest Bingo
Play a themed Oktoberfest Bingo with icons like pretzels, beer steins, pumpkins, and vegan dishes. It's easy to set up, fun for all ages, and can include small vegan-friendly prizes such as chocolate-covered marzipan or mini jars of apple butter.

Photo Booth
Set up a corner with props like Bavarian hats, scarves, lederhosen cutouts, and oversized pretzels. Guests can snap fun pictures to remember the celebration. Add autumn-themed decorations like pumpkins or garlands to enhance the seasonal vibe.
DIY Plant-Based Sausage or Pretzel Bar
Let guests assemble their own plates with vegan bratwurst, weisswurst, pretzels, sauerkraut, and condiments. Provide small serving tongs, labels, and colorful platters to make it interactive, festive, and fully plant-based. This not only keeps the food presentation fun but also encourages guests to customize their meals.
Beer Pong with a Vegan Twist
Transform this classic party game into a family-friendly, plant-based activity by using non-alcoholic beer, sparkling cider, or even flavored sparkling water.

Oktoberfest Dance or Music Circle
Bring music and movement into your celebration! Encourage guests to learn a simple polka step, clap along to lively German folk tunes, or form a circle to join in traditional dances.

5 Tips for a Vegan Oktoberfest
Hosting a plant-based Oktoberfest is easier than you might think! With a few planning tips, you can create a festive, delicious, and inclusive celebration that captures the spirit of Bavaria while keeping everything vegan-friendly.
Check Your Beer
Not all beers are vegan. Some use isinglass (a fish-based fining agent) during brewing. Before stocking your fridge or bar, double-check labels or use apps like Barnivore to ensure your selections are fully plant-based. Offer a mix of vegan lagers, ales, radlers, and non-alcoholic options so every guest has something to toast with.
Batch Cook Sides
Reduce stress on the day of your celebration by preparing sides ahead of time. Sauerkraut, roasted potatoes, vegan spaetzle, and even potato pancakes can be made in advance and warmed up just before serving. This ensures a smooth, relaxed hosting experience and more time to enjoy the festivities.
Balance Savory and Sweet
Oktoberfest is all about indulgence, so don't forget dessert! Offer a variety of plant-based treats alongside hearty mains. Pair apple strudel or pumpkin bundt cake with vegan beer or cider to create the perfect sweet-and-savory contrast.
Keep It Casual
Long communal tables, self-serve dishes, and shared platters encourage conversation, laughter, and the festive camaraderie that makes Oktoberfest special. Don't worry about perfectionâauthenticity and enjoyment are key.
Highlight Vegan Versions
Make sure guests know your plant-based options are just as hearty, satisfying, and festive as traditional dishes. Label dishes clearly, offer tasting portions, and emphasize bold flavors. Vegan food at Oktoberfest can be every bit as indulgent and fun as the originals!
